From an unfinished post...

I got lots of posts in drafts that I can't be bothered to finish. So, I'll steal content from them and slap it up here in an attempt to further reduce my readership.

There was a post titled Things You Probably Don't Know About Me. Here's thing number three:

3. I used to collect baseball cards.

Into my adulthood. Yep. I used to be so serious about baseball. I loved it so much, I still think it's the perfect game. Anyway, I have a closet full of baseball cards and until the early 90s I used to like to buy a six-pack on Friday night and go through them and sort them.

One of the things I loved about baseball was the rich history of statistics. And on the back of every card there are more statistics then any one person could possible retain. But it was fun trying.

Then came the strike. The audacity of those people. Cancelling a World Series. I'm trying to think of an analogy, but I can't put in words how shocked I was at people who would spit on the continuity of the game like that, over a stupid thing like money.

For years, I maintained a vicious hatred of the owners and the players who let that happen. And hatred it was. I didn't hate my ex-wife, but I sure hated those guys.

I'm over the hate, but I lost the ability to make an emotional investment in sports. I'll watch a game, but I'm pretty much emotionally indifferent to the outcome.

Rob: I had the same reaction to the strike. I had been a rabid baseball fan for 15 years, and 1994 had been shaping up into an exciting season. It was 10 years before I attended another major league game.
