I set a trap for rap that's crap...

I had a dream the other night that I was walking down Povarskaya Street in Moscow with Run-DMC and Jam Master Jay. They were some friends of mine from back in the 80s. The missus, Jimmy, and I had befriended DMC one evening over cocktails at The World in Austin.

I was living in Moscow temporarily while in the Navy, they were on tour. DMC had always been impressed with my impersonation of Run, it cracked him up every time. Run didn't like it so much, he said I sounded like a white guy from the suburbs of Houston trying to sound like him. I said, "Well, I can't help what I am," and he told me that given all that I was a pretty good rapper. Not as good as the Beastie Boys mind you, but better than Vanilla Ice or MC Serch.

So I was showing off to them, I had translated the song Run's House into Russian and was rapping for them. I changed all the references from Run to Rob. They eyed me funny, they didn't know what to make of that.
Chey dom?
Dom Roba.
Chey dom?
Dom Roba.
Ya v dome vy vse
Ya v dome vy vse
I vot kak ehto Rob DMC sdelayet vy vse
Ya v dome vy vse
Ya v dome vy vse
I vot o chyom Rob DMC budet vy vse
We got to the Garden Ring road and turned left in front of my apartment in the Reebok building. We continued on down towards the New Arbat, I was in a groove. Rapping in Russian is kind of difficult, but I had one of those days where I didn't get all tongue-tied and confused.

I looked over to get their reaction and they were gone. Run-DMC ditched me and were crossing the street to head towards the Barrikadnaya Metro station. They kind of stuck out on the street.

After I woke up and remembered the dream, I wondered why Povarskaya Street? That means Cooks' Street, the only unique thing about it was I lived on that corner, but I very rarely walked on Povarskaya. I walked on the Garden Ring mostly.

I remembered then that way back when, there was a place on Povarskaya called "Writers' House." Maybe it came from there. (It looks like it's still there.)

Next time I see DMC I'm going give him grief about ditching me like that.

Note: The missus, Jimmy, and I really did befriend DMC in Austin. Well, kind of. We did meet him.

You have the most detailed dreams ever. I don't remember my dreams in that much detail. Nor do I know much Run-DMC or any Russian.

I did sing "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" in Latin with a friend at school while drinking shots of green Gatorade and vodka.
