Flabber, meet gasted; or, gob, meet smacked

1. Workout report: same as before. Music: Johnny Cash, Kirsty MacColl

2. You have got to be shitting me:
To some, 1836 might mean Texas independence. To others, it was the defeat of the Mexican army at San Jacinto and thus loss of some Mexican territory. Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia says 1836 might be sensitive to members of the Hispanic community and more.
Almost 10 years ago, Michelle and I were sitting in the Texas Chili Parlor in Austin, with Jimmy. I was in the Navy, we were living near DC, and not happy. I had come to calling the area "Megalopolis." From Richmond to Boston, the place lacked character. We realized while eating our chili that we wanted to come home to Texas. It was home, a place with some character.

Apparently Sra. Garcia thinks we should not celebrate the independence of our state. An elected official. In Texas. Thinks we should not celebrate and honor the independence of our state.

That MLS and Mr. Luck are considering appeasing the Mexico retrocessionists has dampened my enthusiasm for the team. If they do go ahead and change the name, well, I'll be watching more EPL.

And reconsidering why I live in a place that is ashamed of itself.

3 Comments:

The place is not ashamed of itself. Sra. Garcia is playing the politically correct card shamefully. Let's wait to hear from the folks (a little Bill O. lingo). In fact, I may be forced to write to someone. Any suggestions?
They do this and they've lost me before they had me. Somehow that sentence makes sense to me.
I read the story last night and thought, Rob's gonna think this is bullshit.

Bob
Rob, as libertarian a guy as you should never confuse the words of a government official with the ideas of a people.

That said, if they name the team Lone Star, LST is going to have a freakin' field day.
