Slightly Rough: Blogs' Reaction to the Major League Soccer Team Name - Houston 1836

Once again, a roundup to how Houston 1836 is playing in the media and in the blogs. (Are blogs media?) Text in italics below each link are quotes, non-italics are my comments.

I can't understand why Ms. Garcia allowed herself to become embroiled in a political bashing of the name of a soccer team.

The name of the New England Patriots does not offend. Nor does the name of the 76'ers. These are facts of history as is the founding of Houston and Texas Independence. Get over it. We do not allow our policy to be dictated by outsiders and if you are not an American and simply a guest working here, you don't have the right to dictate that kind of policy. And if you have become a citizen, you had better think where your loyalty lies. If it does not lie with America, there is a serious problem because it means you do not respect the laws, the heritage and the history of this country and last I looked, it was still called the United State so of America.
Good Lord! Is there any part of the independence of Texas that ISN'T going to have an "anti"-Mexico "sentiment"? Tear down the Alamo! It hurts just to look at it! Chop down the San Jacinto monument and sell it for patio tile!
And, for those with French forefathers...let us never mention Cinco de Mayo again! It holds a parade-load of anti-french connotations! Forget the Fourth of July, because the English are still nursing their wounds.

Whoever caved to this incredibly preposterous juvenile complaint needs a backbone transplant. This is a wonderfully absurd example of political correctness at its finest!

SC Houston Mustangs, no other name has the imagery and uniqueness that suits Houston. Keep the colors
I just think 1836 is a boring name for a sports team and I am happy to change it to ANYTHING else!!! For me, personally, the name 1836 conveys only one thing: numbers. I hate numbers. Can't relate to them. Dates neither. Give me something with an image that I can visualize!
