Houston 1836

Well, out of the list proposed, see mine and a few others' thoughts, Houston 1836 was the one I voted for.

Without doing the hard work of actual research, my impression is that Houston 1836 was the most popular name on the Big Soccer board (of the ones proposed by AEG and MLS). The reaction has mostly been favorable over there.

While I wasn't wild about the name, I did like it enough to vote for it. One thing I do like about AEG picking it is it is a gesture to the hardcore soccer fans. Naming it in the US sports style would cheapen it, in my mind anyway. While 1836 isn't strictly a "futbol" name, it is closer than a goofy name like Houston Burn or Houston Heat.

Marketing it to the general public, that's another question, and something I'm not really qualified to comment on.

Very Bundesligen. (sp? - yeah yeah my second language is not German)

I like the name as well.

I like the name too... Its no more unusual than San Francisco "49ers" or Philadelphia "76ers"... commemorating historic years in the names of sports teams isn't only a Bundesliga phenomenon...
