Enmienda constitucional

On Constitutional Amendments, my default vote is always No. I have to be convinced to vote yes because I figure anyone motivated enough to change the Constitution has something up their sleeve.

So, Prop 2 (the definition of marriage) is the only one I've given any thought to, mostly because of some e-mails I've gotten.
"The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage."
I'll be voting No.

I was always theoretically in favor of the separation of state and marriage. I'm in favor of the separation of the state and just about everything. Especially my wallet.

This debate has made me even more in favor of separating state and marriage.

Marriage confers on a couple special privileges. I'm generally opposed to special privileges. In Texas, we confer these special privileges to people based upon an adherence to the majority's religious values.

That ain't right, and Prop 2 only reinforces that. I think adults ought to be free and the government ought not be giving any special favors to anyone. The government ought to be small enough to fit in a bathtub, and Prop 2 makes government bigger and takes power from local governments and transfers it to Austin.

And for the record, if you want to marry your box turtle, knock yourself out. As long as the box turtle consents. Otherwise you'll have county animal control to answer to.

If I get the time (desire really), I'll go read what some smart people have to say about the other amendments. If not, I'll just vote no.
