Restaurant Association Feeding Hurricane Victims

The Greater Houston Restaurant Association is helping feed Gulf Coast residents who fled Hurricane Katrina and have taken shelter in the Houston area.

The Association is asking for its members to help provide assistance to The Salvation Army area shelters by donating food and/or meals in areas of Houston, Conroe, and Pasadena. If you are interested in donating food or would like to volunteer & help distribute food, please contact René Zamore at director@ghra.com or 713.802.1200 to receive detailed information.

The GHRA is also asking its members and other restaurants to offer a dining discount to hurricane refugees who eat in their establishments. The discount would range from 5 per cent to 20 per cent, depending on the establishment, until evacuees are able to return home. To receive the discount, a customer would need to show proof of residency from Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama.

“As residents of a Gulf Coast state, most of us have been through hurricanes and tropical storms,” said GHRA President George Christie. “The loss of homes and businesses is devastating. As restaurateurs, we know how a good meal can help make you feel better, if just for a while. That’s why the Houston Restaurant Association is asking its members to help in any way possible.”

The GHRA will host a food drive next Thursday and Friday to help feed the hurricane victims once they are able to return home. For more information on relief efforts being made, log on to www.GHRA.com.
