As goes Craig

An e-mail from Craig Dickson follows. Governor, if you've lost Craig, you're in deep trouble.
First stop Bellville, Texas. I order a survey for 12.5 acres that I sold on Hwy. 36 in Austin County and while in Bellville I dropped by Kistler Company real estate appraisals. I asked Clay and Margaret to appraise, not a tract of land, but my political thoughts and actions. Clay said go for it, it’s above market. On to Austin. Next stop, lunch at Orsak’s in Fayetteville. Got to eat. On to Austin.

I walk into the Carole Keeton Strayhorn’s campaign headquarters on Rio Grande street at 3 pm. I talk with Carole’s campaign manager, Brad McClellan for about 15 minutes while Carole was finishing up another meeting. Man, I gave Brad a lot of ideas. Wow, what a fabulous and productive meeting. She gave me as much time as I needed. Two minutes - - no, no I’m joking; we spent almost an hour discussing Texas, our friends and the future. Many of ya’ll forward questions for Carole and I had a few of my on. John Boy, one of the BIG questions out there was, ‘how can Carole break the legislative log jam and do anything differently”.

Can I paraphrase what I heard? Carole will lead like President Ronald Reagan – she will take the issues to the people, press conferences on the Capitol steps. Governor Perry wouldn’t play hard ball.

TRANS TEXAS CORRIDOR LAND GRAB by a foreign company approved and supported by Governor Perry. Rosemary, Carole didn’t quiver; she will join us to fight for the hard working property owners of Texas. Governor Perry, you ought to be embarrassed with yourself. This is TEXAS. We don’t go outside to build our roads. A question for someone smarter than me. Where is all the $50 and $60 per barrel Texas oil money going?

Schools – folks, she is a huge advocate of education. And she will give teachers a raise some how. If that scares you, that is the fact. But she has a plan that includes busting fat cat administration budgets and giving homeowners tax relief.

There is a lot more and I hope you’ll get involved.

I’m going to put together a TrueToTexas get together with Carole Strayhorn soon and you will be invited.

Jimmy Ramone, life isn’t all work and politics. Man, I was so fired up after I left Strayhorn’s campaign headquarter. I called a guide, a long time friend of mine that moved to Austin 6 months ago. Jenny. It doesn’t take Jenny long. 6 months and I knew Jenny would know the best places in Austin. She suggested behind the Cedar Door on Brazos. When she walked in the whole place heard her. “ Craig, you met with the next Governor of Texas, you’ve always been ahead of the curve”. And she didn’t quit. She said you are the greatest father, your daughter is wonderful. I may have had a big head, but it was exploding by now. I had planned to have a short social and leave for the hacienda as soon as the traffic broke, but I couldn’t pull myself away from all these compliments. Keep talking, Jenny. So, I offered to buy Jenny dinner anywhere she wanted, cold water fish or thick cut red beef whatever she wanted. Jimmy I was 5000 feet above Austin by then. She suggested Moonshine, that sounds like my kind of eating and we were off. The food was great, the conversation was better. After the meal, we parted. Now, Carole and Jenny had me so fired up I almost got out of hand. My grandfather told me when I was 10 years old that my confidence often goes a few steps ahead of my common sense. Jenny, thank God no one answered at the Austin Press. Hey, if Kinky can do it, why not me. I was ready to announce my candidacy for Governor of Texas right there last night on the Capitol steps. Well, I came back to earth between Smithville and LaGrange.
